Pursuing Peace

What is peace, really?  What does it look like? How do we get it? Keep it? And why should we?

No matter where we live, how we live, or even when we live, peace can be pursued. No matter what is happening in our lives right now or what might happen in the future. No matter what.

It’s more than a latte.  More than a bubble bath. More than the absence of chaos and a calm night by the fire.

    A Present Position

Peace with God is a gift given to his people because of the sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ.  It is the privilege of having free access into the throne room of God our Father and finding there new perspective and help in the middle of every circumstance of our lives.

    A Precious Prescription

We have been given the gift of peace with God but we are to pursue peace in all our relationships.  We create a climate of peace as we continually spend time in the throne room of God and live consistently as his people.

    A Passionate Pursuit

Because we have received peace with God, we offer his peace to a world in turmoil.  We are called to be peacemakers; offering the gift of salvation, working for the good of others and modeling a future hope of ultimate peace.

LESSONS FROM THE SPA

God has chosen us to be His people at this time and place in history.  He invites us into his “spa”, not to indulge us but to develop us into those who live fully and completely for His glory.  This series of talks draws lessons from the book of Esther and the words of I Peter.  We are chosen to be holy, perfected in beauty and called to declare the praises of the God who has made us his very own.

Preparation for the Spa

Esther was an extraordinary woman in the Old Testament, a woman who understood her significance as one of God’s chosen people, and who submitted to his will for her life. As we examine the book of I Peter, we learn that we also are chosen by God for obedience and an eternal future with him.

    Process of the Spa

Esther submitted to beauty treatments in order to become the perfect bride.  We are the chosen bride of Christ, and he prescribes for us spa treatments that are designed, not for our comfort, but to perfect our faith, our beauty and our holiness.

    Purpose of the Spa

God placed Esther in a unique time in history for a specific purpose. Her choosing and her preparation led her to a moment of great importance for her people.  While our lives may not be defined by a single moment, God has prepared for us tasks of eternal significance.  We are to offer spiritual sacrifices of praise, holiness and compassion, and every moment of our lives will matter.

MADE FOR MORE

There is much in life to wear us out and tear us down.  Like the exiles of ancient Israel, God offers us the reality of living with power as we wait on him.  We will examine in depth several passages of Scripture that give us purpose as we run toward Jesus and passion as we walk hand in hand with the One who fills us and waits eagerly for us to join him at his Father’s side.

Made for Power

Life for God’s people during the Babylonian exile was bewildering, discouraging and painful. Like those exiles, we may also feel abandoned by God in the midst of our difficult situations. In Isaiah 40, God gives his people reason to hope and his plan for giving them strength.

    Made for Purpose

In this talk, we will look at Hebrews 12 and the “life race”  that God has laid out for us. There are hindrances to running successfully and a “training program” to victoriously complete the race. Knowing that Jesus is waiting at the end of the race will give us purpose as we run.

    Made for Passion

In the midst of busyness, women are sometimes overwhelmed by the details of their daily lives.  We will re-examine the life of Jesus as he walked on this earth and find renewed enthusiasm to live as he lived. Through various passages in Colossians, we will see that we are called to walk by faith with passion as the life of Jesus fills us, overflowing into the lives of others.

FOR THE DISPLAY OF HIS SPLENDOR

We have been adopted as children of God and He invites us to find safety as we take refuge in him, our Fortress.  As daughters of the King we have also been given the mission of representing our Father, of serving alongside Him on this earth, and participating in His ultimate victory.  As he works in us and through us, we will reflect His splendor for all Eternity. Looking deep into a number of Scriptural passages from the Old Testament—we will find encouragement to become more like our King.

    Searching for Safety

Life can be dangerous, circumstances crushing.   Psalm 62 gives us insight into God’s desire to provide us with safety in the midst of danger or pain.  Like the great castles of Europe, He is a fortress.   All we need to do is learn to take our refuge in Him.

      Standing Firm to Conquer

We are daughters of the King - invited to a place of refuge, but beckoned to a life of mission.   Called and equipped, we have the privilege of serving alongside our Father and participating in His victory.  This message is based on great lessons drawn from the life of King Jehoshaphat and the nation of Israel (2 Chronicles 20).

      On The King’s Behalf

The peace that comes from being daughters of the King must not overshadow the call to represent Him to a world in turmoil.  We’re called  to reflect our Father in our relationships and to come alongside the battered and the broken. Based on key passages from Isaiah, this talk explores what it means to be like our King in our relationships.
